How to live stream PGA Championship golf in Australia

Can Tiger Woods do it again? Despite a divisive past, it seemed like every sports fan across the world had their heart warmed by Tiger Wood's long-awaited 15^thmajor title at The Masters. His final day triumph was the talk of the tournament, with Woods winning the first of the four Majors on offer in 2019.

On May 16 at the Bethpage Black course in Long Island, New York, the second major of 2019 begins. A massive field of 162 golfers will contest the 101^st PGA Championship golf tournament. Eight are Australians, including former PGA Championship winner Jason Day. All of whom will compete for something bigger than progress through the USPGA tour in which the PGA Championship tournament resides.

But in this article, we're going to focus on the PGA Championship.

Given the time difference between Australia and New York, you'd be rightly fearful that the bulk of the PGA Championship action happens in the middle of the night. The Final Round begins at 8:35 pm (AEST) on May 19 and concludes 12-hours later on the morning of May 20.

Is all of the PGA Championship broadcast into Australia?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. While each round tees off at 8:45 pm (AEST), the PGA Championship broadcast into Australia doesn't begin until 3:00 am the following day. The Final Round starts even later, not beginning until 4:00am on the morning of May 20. The broadcast then runs for six hours up until the day's play has been completed, but it's certainly both a disappointing and a bewildering outcome for golf fans across Australia.

Kayo Sports has looked to mitigate this somewhat, offering a Featured Groups broadcast during the first half of each round, where it follows one group of three players around the Bethpage Black course. Thankfully, they are choice groups - targeting key players like Jason Day and Tiger Woods. In Round 1, for example, Kayo follows Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson and Justin Rose from 9:55 pm. And then Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth from 10:10 pm.

Kayo Sports is a new sports streaming service that launched in Australia in November of 2018. It effectively pulls the 14 best channels out of the premium Sports Pack that's available to Foxtel subscribers and then broadcasts them through its own website or app. This includes FOX SPORTS 503, which is showing the PGA Championship.

The main benefit of this approach is Kayo's price: at $25 per month with no contract, it is significantly cheaper than either Foxtel IQ or Foxtel Now.

However, it delivers more just a sexy price point. A futuristic UI creates a Netflix style browsing experience where you can see over 50 sports live and on-demand alongside a tonne of additional programming (chat shows, highlights, entertainment, etc.). It also delivers some stunning viewing experiences that are unique to Kayo Sports, including SplitView (watch four sports at once), picture-in-picture mode, hides scores, jumps to key moments, game-day hub pages and more.

Working on every major device, as well as on your TV via ChomeCast, Apple TV, Android TV or Telstra TV, it's highly accessible, too. Kayo Sports will show the second half of each round of the PGA Championship, two-hours of post-show content, historical PGA footage, the aforementioned featured groups and a replay of each day's play.

Because Kayo Sports offers a 14-day free trial and the PGA Championship only goes for four days, you can watch it all without paying a cent, too.

You can, of course, also watch FOX SPORTS 503 through Foxtel Now or Foxtel IQ. Both of these services offer the exact same broadcast as Kayo Sports, but they do so without any of the unique viewing features. Also, Foxtel doesn't allow you to subscribe just to its Sports Pack, so you will need to pay for the base channels before you can get access to the PGA Championship golf.

Foxtel Now does offer a free 10-day trial period, so you can sign-up for just the PGA Championship without paying a cent. Foxtel IQ, however, is the traditional set-top box experience requiring a full install, so isn't the instant option you'll need if you're trying to watch the tournament at the last minute.

Is the PGA Championship of free-to-air in Australia?

Unlike The Masters before it, which was broadcast on Channel 9, the PGA Championship is not being shown by any of the free-to-air channels. If you want to watch the golf in Australia either live or on replay, you're going to have to do it through Foxtel or Kayo Sports.

PGA Championship Tee Times

Due to the huge size of the playing field, the tee times for the PGA Championship are unusual. Half the field begins at Hole 1, while the half begins at Hole 10. Both halves then play through all 18 holes in their allotted groups. While the groups will change as the tournament progresses, the tee times do not. Below you will find the tee times for each day, next to the groups that tee'd off together in Round 1.
